Kelly K Fact Sheet:
Height: 5’5-ish
Weight: Uh-uh, you don’t ask a woman that!
Age: Nope, you don’t ask her that either, but my birthday is September 10th
Hair Color: R-E-D
Eye Color: Mainly green, but they look blue, gray, even brown depending on my outfit
Marital Status: Married, happily, to Steve since March 22, 2003. We’d been dating since the summer of 1992! Talk about kickin’ the tires and takin’ a test spin!
Family: No kids yet, but 5 cats: Liza, Tylo, Jacob, Chewy & Vinnie
City of Birth: Framingham, Mass. I moved up to the Canadian border, eh, in Northern Vermont with my parents, younger brother and sister at age 7. Then I grew up and got into radio and followed the jobs. Ended up in Northeast PA, left, and came BACK because Steve and I actually really like it here.
Favorite Drink: Dunkin Donuts coffee
Favorite Movie: UHF (Weird Al!)
Favorite TV Show: Gray’s Anatomy
Favorite Web Site: BadgerBadgerBadger.com. I click on it when feeling too serious.
Favorite KRZ Moment: Walking onstage at Montage Mountain at a concert between the Maroon 5 and John Mayer sets a couple of years ago. KRZ was giving away a Ford Mustang that night, and I had to announce the winner. So I walk onstage in front of 10,000 people, someone hit the lights so people start cheering. I grab the mic and yell “ROCK AND ROLLLLLLLL!” It’s probably the closest I’ll get to a Rock Star moment.
Favorite Place to hang when I’m not working: You’ll find me at Barnes & Noble or at Northern Lights Espresso Bar in Scranton. Or Las Vegas!
What made me get into radio: I was 14 and I wanted to be in a band. I even put a “musicians wanted” ad in the paper and people started calling the house. That didn’t go over too well with Mom and Dad. I asked them why I couldn’t be in a band and they said, no joke, “because you’ll get pregnant.” To this day I still haven’t figured that out! Lyndon State College was up the hill from where I went to high school in Vermont, and they had a very powerful FM signal that everybody listened to. They also had a video department, and since I couldn’t be in a band I decided I wanted to produce music videos, so my guidance counselor arranged a tour. But they didn’t do music videos at LSC, they did TV weather forecasts, which did not interest me (sorry Snedeker!) so I asked to see the radio station. I was talking to the student Program Director when he said, “hey you have a good voice, you should audition for a show. Are you a freshman?” And I said, “Yes, I am a freshman.” I did NOT tell him I was a freshman in high school, but by the time they found out I was already on the radio. And instead of kicking me off, they decided to recruit some other high school kids to keep the station on the air during the summer. By the time I was old enough to legally work I had two years experience on the air and I’ve earned my living on the radio ever since!
My theme song: “Lose Yourself” by Eminem. SO motivating!
My first concert: My aunt took me to see the Prentenders with Iggy Pop opening. I realize I may have given away my age, but I got to experience an OLD SCHOOL PUNK LEGEND LIVE, so it was worth it. Besides, Gwen Stefani is still older than me. ;)
