Sue & I had a fun weekend in NYC visiting my sister. We really lucked out at the free Reggae concert in Central Park Sunday by getting seats behind the woman with the biggest hair ever! We asked if we could take our pic with her and she said "No!", so I had to sneak this one. Erykah Badu is alive and well and hanging out in NYC.
Later we went to really cool Art Deco movie theatre in the East Village. And before you say documentaries are boring, you've gotta go see "Searching for Sugar Man". This amazing movie is about a little known singer/songwriter from Detroit named Rodriguez. He released 2 obscure albums in the early 70's then disappeared. Somehow he became a sensation in South Africa, but never knew it. 20 years later he played sold out concerts there. I'm not doing the story justice. It really is an amazing story! GO SEE THIS FILM if it plays locally at the Dietrich or Kirby. Or check out the music of Rodriguez. His music is raw and full of emotion and his voice sounds like a mix Bob Dylan & James Taylor.
We capped off the weekend with a visit to the Guggenheim art museum.
One of the artists featured was Franz Kline. I had never heard of him until this exhibit. And the weird thing? He was born in Wilkes-Barre in 1910. Google him.
And speaking of art, what do you think of this fine example of street art? Pretty sweet, huh?
