Big Brother Day Out

Meet 12 yr old Kaleb, a 7th grader from Plymouth.  Kaleb is one of many cool kids on the waiting list to be matched with Big Brothers/Big Sisters.

Saturday we checked out The Lego Movie at Cinemark.  We BOTH loved it!!!

Here we are getting ready for a head-to-head battle with the Giant Pacman game.

Air Hockey = good times.

Heated competition.

Who turned on the lights?

Kaleb is one of many awesome kids in the program.  He's kicking butt in 7th grade and is super polite.  And he's very competitive in games like air hockey & basketball.

Think you can spare a few hours a month to make a difference in a young kid's life?  Volunteer to be a Big Brother or Big Sister today.

Happy Birthday Facebook? Not Really.

Happy 10 birthday Facebook…I guess.

I have a love/hate relationship with Facebook.  It’s a necessary evil for my job, but the clutter & negative nonsense kills me.

And Lissa & I both revealed today that we each joined Facebook for pretty much the same reason…to spy!  I signed on to keep tabs on my son in college.

This morning we asked:  Who or what convinced you to join Facebook?
It was the cool thing to do in 8th grade.

I still have never set up a facebook account till this day and am surviving just fine. Someday I may decide to join but for now just on twitter.

This is so funny. A friend of mine kept bugging me to join Facebook. We kept up with each other she lives in Philly I live in the Poconos. I didn't vote for Barack Obama. So she yelled at me and told me she could never be my friend. She deleted me from Facebook. And I haven't heard from her again. We were life long friends at that point.

I joined because my mom made an account for my 13 b day

I joined when my children were teenagers, so I could keep an eye on them :) now I'm hooked!

I joined Facebook in 2008 My friend signed me up when we were in a foreign country and I couldn't afford the international calls

I joined in 2009 to show off my daughter when she was born.

My daughter left for college at syracuse and my son entered high school so i wanted to follow them on facebook

I remember people leaving myspace because it took to long for the pages to load because of all the stuff we used to personalize it. I loved my MySpace

I joined to keep in touch with my brother when he moved to Iowa with my sister in law and nephew. I recently deleted my account because people on there can be sooo dramatic! I would read their posts and literally think to myself "oh shut the hell up" ha ha ha. I dont miss Facebook at all.

I joined in 2006 because my older brother had it & I had a HUGE crush on his friend. Haha. Crazy right?!

I joined because nobody was on myspace anymore.

I'm still not on facebook and neither is any of my famil! Including my teenage daughter! Too much trouble and drama!

Super Bowl Sunday and My Dad

As I get ready to watch the Super Bowl today, I was reminded of a blog I wrote a few years ago.  I lost my Dad on Super Bowl Sunday in 2006.  That was the year Pittsburgh & Seattle met.  Super Bowl Sunday is always a time for reflection.

Here's the blog I wrote about my Dad in 2011.

Enjoy your day!

My Dad & Vince Lombardi are linked for life.  They never met & I bet the only thing they had in common was a love for football.

Vince Lombardi of course was the legendary coach of the Green Bay Packers.  He won the first 2 Super Bowls as their coach.  The trophy awarded to the winning team is named after him.  It has been since 1970.
I read this week that 78% of all Americans will be watching.  I’ll be one of them.

Once again this year I'll be watching the game with mixed emotions.  It was Super Bowl Sunday 8 years ago that I lost my Dad.  It seems like yesterday yet it seems like 100 years ago.  If you've ever lost someone close, I'm sure you know what I'm talking about.

My Dad of course got me into football when I was young.  I still remember watching the 1964 NFL Championship as a 7 year old.  It was the last time my team, the Cleveland Browns, were NFL champs.  If you’re a Chicago Cubs fan you know what I’ve been through—a lifetime of “wait til next year!”

As a kid growing up in North Jersey, the local high school (which I would later attend), would play their cross town rival on Thanksgiving.  Even in the snow my Dad would take me.  This is where my love of football first took shape.  I’ve been a fan ever since…thanks to my Dad.

I’ll be thinking of you a lot this weekend, Dad.  And here’s hoping someday soon you’ll be smiling down on me as OUR team finally plays in the big game.
