I’m usually pretty laid back. I try not to let people bother me. But this morning was different. My morning started with CONFRONTATION.
As I was approaching the driveway at KRZ I noticed Lissa’s little Neon stopped in front. An 18 wheeler had conveniently parked on the shoulder blocking our way in.
I quickly pulled into the Mini-mart next to the station to see if Mr. Inconvenient was inside.
It’s 4:30am. There’s 1 guy waiting at the counter. I’m thinking I found my guy.
“Is that your tractor trailer parked out front?” I asked.
“Yeah,” he grunted.
“You’re blocking our driveway. It’s a radio station and people are trying to get to work.”
Truck guy says “Give me 5 minutes.”
5 minutes??? In the radio world, 5 minutes is an eternity. In 5 minutes, we can run to the bathroom, grab a cup of coffee, check email, print stories off the web and still have time left to delete annoying people from our Facebook page.
“I don’t have 5 minutes,” I pleaded. “And we have a bunch of people that need to get in to work.”
OK, I stretched the truth just a bit.
He mumbled something under his breath, shook his head, and slowly walked out to move his rig.
Wow! Battle won. It’s not even 5am and I’m in the victory circle.
Here’s a chance to do something rewarding and really make a difference in NEPA.
This morning we had Leadership Wilkes-Barre in the studio with us. Their project for 2012 is SpecialSpaces. Special Spaces is a national non-profit organization that creates dream bedrooms for kids with life challenging illnesses. Special Spaces was originally founded in 2004, but the NEPA Chapter is the first in our area.
Their first bedroom makeover is for a 4 yr old boy who has Down Syndrome. That project is scheduled for Saturday April 14.
If you would like to help with this project or would like to nominate a child for a future project contact Michelle Morgan at NEPA@specialspaces.org or 570.212.9728.
And we’ll see you this Wednesday, February 29 at the Hoyt Library in Kingston for the Special Spaces Wine & Cheese Benefit from 6-9pm.
Wow! I can’t believe it’s already the last weekend in February. Where did this poor-excuse-for-a-Winter go to?
Here’s a few of the events we were talking about this morning—
Tomorrow night is the Penguins’ annual SALUTE THE TROOPS night.

Is this good reporting or someone who can't work off the teleprompter?
I give the reporter credit for not missing a beat when a car gets t-boned behind her....BUT REALLY! Maybe the rise in gas prices isn't the biggest story OF THE MOMENT. Did you not hear what just took place behind you?
We'd love to hear from some of our reporter friends @ WBRE and WNEP. How would you react? And have you have had news break while you were live on the air reporting on a totally different story?
Those exact words were text to us this morning. Moments earlier I mentioned on the air that if I was EVER to get a tattoo, it would be the logo of my favorite football team and not my son’s name.
Does that make me any less of a father for saying so?
Granted, tattoos are a personal choice. If you want to have a Tweety Bird in ink on your ankle, go for it. Or if you prefer barbed wire on your bicep, make it happen, cap’n.
But I really don’t get having someone’s name permanently inked on your bod. Does that mean you love your child any more than someone else? Of course not.
It reminds me of the people that wrap themselves in the American Flag. If you want to have 30 flags in front of your house and a statue of Uncle Sam humming “America the Beautiful”, I’m not going to stop you.
But don’t say I’m any less of an American for choosing not to display my patriotism.
And Dylan, if you’re reading this, I still love you more than I will ever love the Cleveland Browns!
OK, so I used to go through magazines and rip pages out of things that interested me...things and ideas that I wanted to make, or try, or buy. I still have a folder FULL of stuff on the lower shelf of my bookcase. Then I checked out PINTEREST, a website that has a plethera of ideas and projects, vacation spots, unique wedding ideas, photography, kids stuff, recipes, pets, home improvement, room design, fashion, hair, shoes......ahhh I could go on and on. I'm HOOKed!
PINTEREST is a treasure hunt that's pretty to look at....you see something and you pin it to your bulletin board and you have it forever whenever you want to drag it back out and give it a whirl...that inspired the first meal I've made in awhile.....If 'Im doing a bonifide meal it has to be quick, easy and GOOD.
So here's the Chicken Parm recipe. Been done I know.....but it was tasty and quick to put together.
Oh and the chicken is baked not fried.
Start with olive oil and 2 cloves of smashed garlic....cover bottom of casserole dish
I used 4 chicken breasts cut into pieces,
then a jar of good tomato sauce.
Cover with mozzarella cheese and parmesan
then garlic flavored crutons on top of cheese.....yep...they suck up the tomato sauce and give the parm some CRISP!
Cover those with more mozz cheese and more parm and pop in 350 oven until chicken is done and it's bubbly
and crispy on top.
10 minutes to make 30-50 minutes to bake.
And if you want to see my page on PINTEREST go here-->
There was a firestorm of reaction in the KRZ Text Club this morning after we read the email from Christine aka "The Girl who Said No!". She turned down Dave's proposal live on KRZ Tuesday morning.
You were all hatin' on her Tuesday, but after we read her email, the pendulum started swinging in the other direction.
My thoughts are in italics.
Feel free to add a comment.
I really agree with her BUT if someone you loved was leaving and going away wouldn't you feel you should try to keep them for the fear of losing them. People change and maybe he was just afraid of losing her forever. Good call.
I feel bad that they had to embarrass each other in public, but all I really know is I want to marry Lissa and have Rocky and Sue adopt me. What a messed up family tree that would be!
The point is, she already told him NO even before Tuesday...bottom line. No? Not familiar with that word. It means?
I don’t feel sorry for either of them lol if she said no beforehand they should’ve just ended the relationship there plain and simple. Can’t fault a guy for trying.
Sounds like Dave has issues i am happy that Christine said no. Now I understand why the sign wasn’t more personal. Issues? So many he needs a subscription? How can you tell?
Dave's a dumbass! I don't feel sorry for him now! Harsh!!!
Sorry. I guess I'm the odd ball but I don't feel bad for him. He was selfish and wanted her to stay!! I wouldn't continue to even be in a relationship! Quirky, but not odd.
Obviously he is afraid she will fall out of love with him if she goes on the study abroad trip. So he put her on the spot to keep her. I still feel bad but if she said no, then no. But he obviously doesn’t respect or understand. So she won’t be able to resist an International Man of Mystery then?
Would he rather her say yes get married and have the fact that she gave up an opportunity of a life time between them all the time..if ur not sure and forced in to doing it..it’s not gonna work..my niece studied abroad while having a boyfriend..when she got back they were still then and now together and very happy...if u ask me he is selfish for even asking her to give that up... Glad to hear that LDR (long distance relationship) worked out. Usually they don’t.
I don't feel bad for him and I think it’s wasteful on his part because someone that could of really gotten engaged missed out on the amazing proposal! Yeah, lots of listeners said the same thing.
To me he is trying to control her. Christine run. Is this Lissa?
Good for her. I think it's funny she was worried she embarrassed the station. Guess she doesn't listen to the show ;-â) Our jaws dropped, but we weren’t embarrassed.
She is a tramp! She said no to a life-long commitment over a college course that she could do here. Dude your just a toy till she gets bored, better off. That’s a stretch.
Dave was wrong for trying to stop her from following her dreams of studying abroad. You have a short time in your life where you get to do what you dream of before real life starts! Good point.
I just got the BEST TEXT EVER that I just had to share.
Last weekend I spent a few hours with John, a little in the Big Brother/Big Sister program. We had a blast playing video games & air hockey at Wilkes-Barre Movies 14 and then watched “The Phantom Menace”. It was John’s first ever 3D movie and he loved it!
Monday morning John woke up extra early to hang with us in the studio at KRZ. He was a natural RADIO STAR.
We thought he had fun, but we had no idea.
Here’s the text I just got from my BB/BS advisor—
John talked about how happy you guys made him on the way home. He said you guys made his year! Seriously.
This is why I volunteer as a Big Brother. Moments like this make it all worthwhile. It’s pretty amazing how a short amount of time every month can really make a difference in a kid’s life.
So we had this big surprise planned this morning for Valentine's Day. A listener called us Monday to take advantage of our offer: Propose using the electronic sign at the Mohegan Sun Arena.
At 7:30, the proposal went up for all to see. And then our listener Dave asked his girlfriend Christine to marry him live on the air. To everyone's surprise, she said NO!!!
What followed was uncomfortable silence and then Dave telling us he had to go.
Calls and text poured in.
Here's what a few of you had to say--
I wish I would have had a proposal like that. An ass would have not been so romantic and gone so far to make it special. Should not have played that again. Let him have some dignity. I would have left her in the parking lot!
He didn't even ask her to marry him he said everyone there thinks she should marry him.
That was rough. As a professional counselor he really needs to talk this out
You should have a show the "local bachelor"....10 girls & he can choose..he can go on a date each night w/ a diff girl...10 day,10 date. What do ya think?
Hey dave...let that chick hitchhike home!!
It sounded she was insulted that it was made so public if u listened to her she asked if this was on the radio I think it wasn’t a personal moment between them she was more upset that it was on the radio then the question that he asked her
Her reaction sounded like my wife: "what are you doing?" RUN DAVE! DON'T LOOK BACK
Sadly, every guy that makes a huge spectacle of the proposal is usually told no. But its ok to make a huge spectacle of the wedding day because it’s her day....not fair!
This may not be the 1st time that he has asked, that’s what is sounds like to me, lets hear her side.
BAD DAY TO DO IT! Also I don't think she wanted have a relationship. She may have someone on the side. It’s better he finds out now than later.
I feel terrible. That guy did a great thing and got crapped on. I’ll marry him! He deserves better treatment than that
Everyone seems to be blaming the girl, we don't know if Dave is a complete ass maybe he was cheating and this was his way to make it up to her
He is really lucky in the end because a nice girl would have thought about his feelings and said yes then spoke to him later about it. She didnt think of his feelings at all so he is better off because she is not a person who would think of his feelings. He deserves better than her.
C’mon guys it was unfortunate but stop talking about the girl. There is evidently a story here and it may be painful for her. I feel bad for both of them but if isn't for us to figure it out. Give them some space.
I’d say 'No' just for him asking on the radio....It’s not the most romantic proposal...Id be pissed too if I were her!
The best thing u can do is let this cool down. Both people are extremely embarrassed, give them some privacy, drop the bit, it flopped. It’s not your fault but if u keep talking about it, you’re making things worse. If either person calls u then its fair game.
I don't think his message was good: “Everybody at KRZ thinks u should marry me?’ but I don't think that is why she said no either. He sounded desperate to me.
When he was on the phone yesterday u could tell she was gonna say no. I dont know why ur surprised
You guys need expert help for this man. go to bravo TV.com and contact Patti Stanger the millionaire matchmaker.
The Jerry Springer Show we attended back in December with KRZ listeners aired yesterday and the cameras loved us! Maybe they could sense the dysfunction OR maybe it was the fifty we slipped one of the camera guys.
The topic: Stripper Sister vs. Pregnant Sister. But it wasn't these two! That's KRZ contest winner Cammi & Lissa.
My Mom would be so proud!
And here's what I was cheering...Stripper Sister flashing Pregnant Sister!
Lissa is ready for her closeup.
KRZ contest winner Billy having a moment with Jerry.
It was THE hot topic on this morning's show: First dates on Valentines Day.
Lissa is going on a date with a guy for the first time next Tuesday. I think she is setting herself up for a miserable night. Valentines Day in general is one of the worst nights of the year to go out. The service stinks. Restaurants are crowded. Save it for the weekend.
Sue thinks the environment isn't good for a first date. And he might possibly be putting a little pressure on Lissa since he waited until Valentines Day to ask her out.
Here's what some of you said via text--
Big mistake... long wait for dinner plus expectation are too high for that day. She'd be better going out the week before or after. Good luck Lissa
I dont think theres nething wrong with going on a 1st date on valintines day.. Its just a senseless holiday the card compines invented to boost card sale
A first date on Valentine is a bad idea. I think it puts too much on it for both parties kinda like it has to work out bc of Valentines day.
Too much pressure for the first date. The wrong kind of pressure
If she wasn't interested she would have said no. So tell her stop complaining.
My husband and I had our first date on Valentine's day 10 years ago! Happily ever after!
The worst thing is that when they go and kiss on Valentines day what if they have onions and she has smelly breath. That would be the worst thing
I think Lissa should definitely go! What’s the worst that can happen? Obviously he likes her, he just wants the date to be perfectly romantic, as a 1st date should be right?
There is nothing wrong with the date on Vday. Establish some boundaries and expectations. No flowers, split the bill and downplay the hype and just be honest.
I am also going on a date on v day with a guy i have known for a long time. He and I have never been on a date before and I made it perfectly clear to him that it is a first date and he should treat it as such.
It's just like going out on new years eve. seems like the guy just wants more than a date.
Its a good idea, very good. You never know what hand fate will deal. Hopefully she has fun, it could be a date they will celebrate the rest of their lives!
Awkward. Go out w/ her girlfriends-- My girlfriends & I are having girls night on Valentine's since some of us can't be with our boyfriends & others are single
What difference does it make what day they go. If he likes hr and she likes him then that's the perfect day to go out I say go for it
He will be looking for more than just a dinner date it's valentines day , women might be a little more willing in his mind. And if that's how he is thinking she is better off not going out with him at all!
Good idea, I met my boyfriend of 2 years on Vday but we waited till the next week for our first date to avoid the hype. Good luck Lissa
I think Lissa setting herself for a bad thing
Worst idea ever.
Who has a first date on a TUESDAY? This guy already wants too much!
Doesn't matter, it will work or not its all in compatibility which is there or not any day. Lol just as bad dinner service. As for him picking that day may have been a gesture for them not to be alone on a romantic holiday. Too much thought, just go w it and enjoy!
V day doesnt matter but it is a Tuesday doesn’t Lissa get up at like 200a? Wait until Friday.
Good idea. Then they will remember the date of their first date
Yes but it also gives you a lot of time to interact with the person and plus it’s an easy way to remember the anniversary!
Too much pressure. The hype makes it almost impossible to make a good impression.
Bad idea. The expectations are too high.
Lot of pressure on both of them for the most romantic day of the year
When my husband and I started to date back in 1989, it was right around valentines day that we decided to go out. I specifically waited until the weekend afterwards. I think there's too much pressure for a first date to be on that day.
Hope you had a great Super Bowl weekend. As you can see in this photo, our dog Frankie the Rat picked New England. I coached him all week, but for some reason he went with the Patriots. Frankie lost and Rocky & Sue Show listener Phil won a $50 Brews Bros gift certificate.
Saturday night's comedy show at the Pocono Brewing Company was a sell out AND a lot of fun. Here we are with headliner the Reverend Bob Levy. Bob told me he plans on bringing some shows to Scranton. Keep listening to KRZ for details.
Legendary WWE wrestler Mick Foley was there. This was our 5th attempt at a photo. For some reason the flash on my phone wasn't working right. Thanks for the patience Mick.
A film crew was at the club doing a documentary on Santa Claus and what they do in the off season. That's why Mick's wearing the Santa hat. Don't worry, I don't get it either.
And we wrapped up the weekend at a friend's Super Bowl party. What an awesome game. And besides M.I.A's attention grabbing middle finger stunt, the halftime show was one of the best ever.
Suggestion for next year: Save a vacation day for Super Bowl Monday like we did. I don't see the day after the big game being made into a national holiday anytime soon.
Most experts think it’s a toss up and should be one of the best ever. The rematch…NY vs. Boston (again!)…Brady going for his 4th ring…Eli Manning trying to outdo brother Peyton. Lots of good story lines.
I just hope more people will be talking about the game Monday instead of the commercials.
My prediction: Giants 34 Patriots 30
I asked a few friends on Twitter for their predictions--
@TrishHartman (Trish Hartman/WNEP)
Pats 30-24 (this is actually my fiance's prediction, since I know jack about football.) Another prediction... Pigs in blanket: 20, Trish: 0
@sorrymomanddad (Justin Brown/Weekender)
GIANTS! All the way. There's no such thing as an under dog, just being under estimated!
@MonicaReports (Monica Madeja PA Live/WBRE)
as much as I hate to say this..... Giants
@DaveKuharchik (Dave Kuharchik PA Live/WBRE)
Pats all the way. I hate the Giants!!!
@SharlaMcBride (WNEP Sports)
I’m picking the Giants beat the Patriots, 27-24! Eli Manning gets Super Bowl MVP ï
@brian_coe (WB/Scranton Penguins)
Giants 27 - Pats 18. And I predict no fewer than 15 Peyton manning shots during the broadcast.
@ReporterJim (Jim Murdoch WNEP)
I’m from the jersey shore so giants by 10
@SportsmanDaily (Tom Alexander @ www.sportsmandaily.com)
NY 23 - NE 14
@pinglocal6 (former WNEP Sports anchor David Pingalore)
Pats win 31 21
And a few more picks from KRZ listeners--
The Patriots are going into the game with revenge, The Giants are going in with heart and desire. The Gmen were "counted out" in week 13-14 of the regular season and they fought hard to get each win each week. They have to win, to prove everyone wrong that they aren't just a "lucky" team. The last several weeks The Giants have been playing really good football. Everything seemed to fall into place at the right time; the players got healthy and they have gelled as a cohesive team. Eli and the offense have been consistent with scoring points. Cruz, Manningham, Ballard, all making great plays consistently to move the chains. Defense has been outstanding the last few weeks. Granted the secondary struggles on the long ball, but the line has been strong and has made key stops. Defense needs to bring pressure strong and hard on Brady and make him throw a pass he is not comfortable with. All of that combined with the fact that as a team, they have been disciplined to keep the penalties low, and they have capitalized on turnovers. Their momentum is strong and they are playing extremely well, so all of those factors and the fact that I bleed blue, tell me the Giants are going to come out on top Sunday.
The Giants are going to win based on their incredible front four. Between Justin Tuck on one side and Jason Pierre- Paul ok the other side they will apply pressure on Brady which will allow Chris Canty and Rocky Bernard to get either sacks or knock passes down.
I will be attending a party at my house so that way I can get my drink on.
The New England Patriots enter the Super Bowl this Sunday as a 3-point favorite, the first time they’ve been favored by less than 7 points since Week 12.
With such a low spread to cover the Patriots could make a very profitable NFL betting option this Sunday.
Revenge is one of the biggest driving factors in professional sports, and you won’t find a much bigger revenge spot than this year’s Super Bowl. The Patriots had their perfect season in 2007 spoiled by the Giants in Super Bowl XLII, and with so many key players from that team still leading the Patriots (including Tom Brady, Wes Welker, Logan Mankins, and Vince Wilfork), it is hard to imagine New England isn’t champing at the bit for this chance at redemption.
So it’s pretty much a lock that you will be among the 100 million worldwide that will be watching the Super Bowl this Sunday. Even if you’re not a football fan, you’ll probably be at a house party eating or drinking.
Americans will spend more than $1 billion this week on food & drink. That includes 1.25 billion chicken wings, 8 million slices of pizza, 46 million pounds of potato chips & 71 million pounds of quacamole. Yeah, the California Avacado board always throws around that guacamole stat, but I haven’t been to a party yet that served up a tub of the green goo.
And how about the betting?
Experts in Vegas say over $90 million in bets will be taken in. And remember, that’s only the LEGA bets. If you’re at a party, you’re betting on anything that moves during the game.
Those are the fun bets. Even if you’re not a football fan, you can get in on the action.
These are a few REAL prop bets for Sunday’s game--
--What color Gatorade will be dumped on the head of the winning coach? (Orange is the safe bet)
--Will Kelly Clarkson’s bare belly be shown when she sings the National Anthem? (I’m thinking not)
--Will Madonna wear a hat at any time during the halftime show? (Bet the mortgage on this one, yes!)
Here’s a few more I just came up with while writing this blog--
--Will the guy next to me gag when he gets that first look at Madonna’s emaciated arms during the halftime show?
--Will a commercial starring talking monkeys on Jazzies air before the game even starts?
--Will I wake up Monday morning thankful that we finally were smart enough to take the day after the big game off?
I’m very excited about this weekend and here’s why. I’ve been asked to host a comedy show @ the Pocono Brewing Company Saturday night starring wrestler Mick Foley, Reverend Bob Levy, and my new best friend Louis “Twitchels” Centanni.
