What Did You Learn from your 20's?

This week on GIRL TALK with Melissa from The Weekender we reflected on our 20's. What was the biggest thing you took with you from your 20's?

I learned how to be independent. After college, I moved to Ohio and lived in a small apartment on the first floor of a house. I thought this was the coolest thing ever. My own place! But I didn't know the first thing about cooking, cleaning, or keeping the place up and running. It was on the job training. And for me, the ultimate learning experience.

And I also learned how to drive a stick! :)

How about YOU?

Here's a few comments from listeners...

--I wish I had the knowledge in my 20's that I have now...but what I have learned is what is meant to be will ALWAYS find it's way & does not need to be forced.
--I didn't think that I had a look at price tags so in my 20s I had that same attitude so I was robbing Peter to pay Paul until one day they took my car so I went to my parents for help and for once my parents did not help me. They said "figure it out" and I did. I learned a really good lesson from that!
--In my 20s I learned that it's ok to be single. Worry about your goal because there is always time for a relationship.
--I'm only 24, and realizing just how real those college loans are at a few hundred $$$ a month on top of rent, gas, groceries, cell phone, etc. I have an elementary teaching degree and of course I'm still trying to get a permanent position.
--Don't loan money to friends!
--I learned to not compare my accomplishments to anyone else's. We all do things in our time. Who cares if all your friends are married, that doesn't mean they are all happy.
--I learned to talk things out instead of getting angry and letting things ruin my day. This has made every day happier!
--I learned that student loans are real, and not "so off in the future".
--I learned it's all downhill after 25 (I turn 47 next month)
--I learned not to base life decisions on a guy. I have 2 daughters and my hope is they learn from my experience.
--I had triple digits partners, thought it was cool then, but now not so much. Alot of women don't take me serious or won't give me the time of day because of how many women I've been with....they think I'm after one thing. So my lesson learned is, don't sleep around. Even though I was safe, its not cool. They remember.
--I learned the value of patience and taking my time with pretty much everything.

Ice Bucket Challenge is On!!!

Friday I was issued the Ice Bucket Challenge by my friend Brian Coe of the Penguins.

It's a simple concept. Someone accepts the challenge, records themselves dumping a bucket of ice water over their head, then challenges 3 or more friends to do the same. If you are challenged, you have 24 hours. It's all about raising awareness for charity.

Ice Bucket Challenge

Get a bucket of water and fill it with ice.

Lift the bucket...

Dump the bucket...

Feel the chill...

Call out at least 3 of your friends to complete the challenge for themselves.

I issued the challenge to Lissa & Fast Freddie Friday afternoon. I'm still waiting...

Pens for Plugs

I know you have probably followed the continuing saga of Freddie the pen thief.

Yesterday we came up with a way to keep Freddie from stealing our pens. It involved string and duct tape.
Yeah we basically turned the KRZ Studio into a bank lobby...a pen attached by string!

And now we want to take it one step further. That's where you come in.

Send us your pen and we'll mention your business on the air. It's PENS FOR PLUG!
You send us a pen...and we'll plug your business on the air.

Deal?

Here's the address:

Rocky and Lissa
98.5 KRZ
305 Highway 315
Pittston, PA 18640

*Must be a working pen

*Pens becoming the property of Rocky & Lissa
*We'll do our best to keep them out of the hands of Freddie

It's a twister with teeth!

Good news SHARKNADO fans.  They'll be more sharks in the air next summer!  SHARKNADO 3 has already been given the green light.  Keep your eyes to the skies.  Maybe sharks will hit PA!

As we recover from Thursday night's shark attack on NYC, here's my favorite lines from SHARKNADO 2.

Tara Reid:  The shark kept chasing me, like he knew who I was.
Ian Ziering:  He didn't know who you were.  If he did, he would've run the other way.

Ian:  Anyone plays me in a movie, it's gonna be me!

Matt Lauer:  I don't want to alarm anyone, but there is a concern that New York could be facing a Shark storm.

Al Roker:  Think of it this way, this is a twister...with teeth.

Ian:  Even the Sharknados are tougher in New York.

Mark McGrath:  You know what it just did, don't you?  It jumped the shark!

Robert Klein:  This is the big apple.  When something bites us, we bite back.

Ian:  They're sharks.  They're scary.  And no one wants to be eaten.

We Rocked Knoebels

What a GREAT day of fun we had at Knoebels yesterday!  Early Thursday we filled a bus (THANK YOU JZ Tours) wiith littles that are on the waiting list with Big Brother/Big Sister of the Bridge.  The idea:  give kids on the waiting list a taste of what the mentoring program is all about.

Right after lunch, we let everyone loose at America's largest free admission amusement park.  It's Friday morning, and I'm still recovering!!!

That's my new buddy Dylan as we started our trip up The Flume.

I didn't get the memo about bringing a towel.

We helped celebrate the Twister rollercoaster's 15th birthday...by screaming & yelling.

I would've been lost without these 2...Liz and Pilar from BBBS!

Alan Stout from BBBS presented my boss OD and I with a few tokens of his appreciation.

There are SO MANY kids just like the littles we had on this trip waiting for a match with BBBS.  That is why there is such a desperate need for volunteers to join the mentoring program.  Becoming a Big Brother has been one of the most rewarding experiences in my life.  And I promise it will have the same impact on you!

I can't urge you enough to get involved with this program.  A few short hours a month can have an amazing effect on a young kid's life here in NEPA.

If you'd like more info on how to become a Big Brother or Big Sister CLICK THIS LINK or call 800.955.4376.

Have a GREAT weekend!

Great job Scranton!!!

Wow!  It was a sea of orange at Nay Aug Park in Scranton Sunday morning for the 1st Annual Frankie's Voice 5K Walk/Run.

Frankie of course is Frankie Bonacci, who was brutally murdered 1 year ago.  What a show of support and solidarity.

Lissa & I were so proud to be a part of this event.  Way to go Scranton!!!  And GREAT JOB by Frankie's family & friends and all the volunteers that made this special day possible.

We're still waiting for the final total as far as participants, but I can remember getting passed by a runner with the number 838!

Again, AWESOME JOB!!!  I love to see the community come together and turn a negative into a positive event like today.

You Can't Take a Bad Photo in Maine

Sue and I just got back from an amazing week in her home state, Maine.  What a great road trip!
And yes, YOU CAN'T TAKE A BAD PHOTO IN MAINE!!!

Look closely.  Those are seals or sea dogs as they call them in Maine.  Our captain pointed them out as we took a day trip to Monhegan Island.

This incredible view is on Monhegan Island, an island accessible only by boat.  And as you can imagine, this point has been a favorite of painters for years.

The majestic Island Inn on Monhegan.  This classic Maine hotel has been on this spot since 1907.

The view from the porch at the Island Inn.

It wouldn't be Maine without lobster.  This is one of many little fishing villages you can find along the coast.

By far, the best lobster roll we ever had, came out of this little food truck in Cape Elizabeth.

One of 7 lighthouses spotted on our river boat cruise along the Kennebec.

A little roadside Americana in Midcoast Maine.

And our kids, Frankie & Sammi had just as much fun as we did!

If you are ever planning a trip to Maine, feel free to give me a shout at rocky@985krz.com
