July 18, 2013 ~ farewell mountaingrown

Last night marked the end of a local music tradition - the last EVER Mountaingrown Music Series with Alan Stout. It's always been a monthly thing, local artists play live at the Woodlands, broadcast live on our sister station 102.3 FM, but now it's ending because 102.3 is switching formats in August (soon to be a sports station).

Now, here's the thing: I know NOTHING about sports, so maybe this will be awesome for the station. But I do know indie music. And I know that in this area you will not find a bigger supporter of local indie artists (like myself) than Mr. Alan K Stout. Alan was the first to play my stuff on Pennsylvania radio when I moved to this area in 2010. I'm positive I've gotten several gigs because of his referral & support. Most local artists would say the same!

So Alan, I'm so sorry your show is ending - it will be dearly missed. We can never thank you enough for what you've done for the local music community. And Mike Lehman, thanks for the killer pics from last night....

(L to R) John Phillips, Kate Hearity, Me, Alan Stout

Me and the incomparable Kate (K8) Hearity - she'll be playing a set along with me and several other amazing local female artists at tomorrow night's Women Who Rock! Jazz Cafe in Plains, 6pm - you're invited! Benefits Domestic Violence Service Center :)

Me with Ed Randazzo! He's been a friend of mine for a couple years now, but this was the first time I'd ever seen him perform - WOW!!!! Dude gave me chills in 90 degree weather! Unbelievable!

Alan K. Stout! We will miss your MOUNTAINGROWN MUSIC SERIES! And YOU most of all! Love and respect on behalf of all NEPA musicians!

....aaaand a lil stage shot :) Great setup, Woodlands!

July 15, 2013 ~ Mayhem Fest in the dark

In the dark isn't as fun as Billy Squier makes it sound. If you get that reference I'll hug you. Mayhem Festival was KILLER at Montage on Saturday, except for the over-an-hour lull created by a massive power outage in the Electric City. See? Irony isn't as fun as Alanis Morissette makes it sound either. Give that one a minute.

Five Finger Death Punch, Rob Zombie, Mastodon, Amon Amarth, Butcher Babies, dozens of others, definitely worth catching this tour! I might even go again!

My girls and I :) Amber, Me, Jenis

Five Finger Death Punch!! I don't remember if this was before or after the electrical kablooey....

ROB ZOMBIE!!! Dig through the ditches and burn through the witches and slam in the back of my..... utility pole in Scranton.

July 10, 2013 ~ help!

I'm gonna warn you: if I happen to see you in person, I'm kinda cantankerous right now. Sick of this sling on my arm. I can't play piano, I can't open pickle jars, I can't clap. You can imagine how much this bums me out, considering my love for applauding myself when I open pickle jars, then writing a song about it.

Yeah, fractured my elbow on the 4th of July falling on a soapy floor. Boo hoo. Attractive, huh?

But one of the news stories I had to do this week is the real reason I'm troubled. It's haunting me. Big time. A little girl passed away last month in McAdoo when a fire broke out in her family's home. Her name was Madison Arner - just 6 years old. In addition to losing this beautiful little girl, her family lost everything in the fire. So the community of McAdoo had a benefit for the family last week, raised almost $3,000 and somebody STOLE the money!! I can't imagine what kind of scum would do such a thing. But I also can't imagine what Madison's family is going through. Police are still looking for the suspect, but in the meantime, here's how WE can help!

They're having ANOTHER benefit for the family on Sunday, so pleasepleaseplease let's all try to hit it!!! Or help out! I know I will! Here's the info:
