Coming back from another SUPER BUSY weekend in NEPA. Friday I got to hang with my favorite bird, Tux, and fire up the crowd for the Penguins playoff opener. Our Pens won the first 2 games at home this weekend and can wrap up the 1st round of the Calder Cup playoffs with a win in Syracuse Wednesday night. #LetsGoPens
Sunday I hit Scranton with 500 over riders for the 12th Annual Tour de Scranton. We did the 32 mile trek to Carbondale & back. Despite a cloudy day, it was great to get out for my first big ride of the season.
The money raised benefits the Erin Jessica Moreken Drug & Alcohol Treatment Fund.

Sunday night I ditched the spandex and got all fancy with Fast Freddie at the big fundraiser for the Scranton Cultural Center. We were media hosts for the 15th Annual Evening of Fine Food & Wine. Wow! Great tastes indeed. And it's really cool to donate the time and give back to an awesome facility like the Cultural Center. We are so lucky to have such a venue here in NEPA.
Recently Lissa & I were contacted by Stephanie, a volunteer at the Indraloka Animal Sanctuary in Mehoopany. They wanted us to remind you about the center celebrating it's 10th year providing education programs to over 2,000 kids and 1,000 adults. More than 600 animals have been rescued and cared for at the sanctuary.
As they like to put it, Indraloka provides a "heaven on Earth" for farm animals with no other place left to turn.
This sounds like a pretty amazing place. Visitors are always welcome. They are open for visits & tours most Saturdays at 11a or by appointment Tuesday thru Friday.
Care.com just released the results of their 1st annual babysitter survey. I found it hard to believe the amount of cash babysitters are bringing home! On average, nationwide, whether they are a full-time caregiver, or a regular date-night sitter, last year they were paid $13.44/hour. That's up a buck from 2013.
What do you pay your sitter? And if you babysit, where do you charge? Are you above or below the national average? As one of our listeners put it: "Pay peanuts and you get monkeys."
Here's what a few of our listeners had to say:
--I wouldn't pay more than $9.25 for a teenager. That's way more than they would get at a fast food joint. --I pay $2.50 an hour per child. If I had to pay the average per child, I might as well just stay home because it wouldn't be worth me working.
--$14/hour for a babysitter??? That's crazy! Most people in this area don't make anywhere near that at work.
--My daughter makes $10/hour.
--$75 for 3 kids for 6 hours.
--I'm a babysitter. I tell parents $10/hour but I generally get $12.
--$14 an hour for a babysitter seems a little ridiculous. There are some P/T Police officers in this area that aren't even making that.
--I was earning about $200-300 a week. I was watching 3 kids and I'm 17.
--When my wife & I were looking for a babysitter we had someone who wanted $20/hour. We didn't choose that person!
The snow is gone and the weather is SLOWLY starting to warm up. It's time to get your bike tuned up and get registered for some fun Spring rides!
Here's a few rides on my radar for this month.
BIKE 'N BREW 2015
Shawnee Craft Brewery
Saturday Apr25 10a
This is a 16 mile trail ride (mountain bikes only). After the ride you are shuttled back to the brewery for food & brews. Mountain biking along the Delaware + Shawnee Craft beer. Sounds like a home run!
Lissa & I can't THANK YOU enough for rolling up your sleeve and donating blood. Friday's PINT PARTY at Ken Pollock Volvo with the NEPA Red Cross helped save 100+ lives here in NEPA.

*More than 41,000 blood donations are needed every day.
*A single car accident victim can require as many as 100 pints of blood.
*Every pint of blood donated saves 3 LIVES!
