Becca's Closet . . . DONATE a dress or GET ONE!
Nia Rametta, 16, of Stroudsburg, is part of the Monroe County chapter of Becca's Closet, which gives gently used formal dresses for those who can't afford a new one.
There are five Pennsylvania chapters of Becca's Closet, including one in Stroudsburg, which acts as the Monroe County chapter.
Rametta said so far she has collected 75 dresses this year, which will be distributed on March 27 and 28 at the Hampton Inn in Stroudsburg. On Sunday, hours will be from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Monday, the hours are 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Dresses can still be donated for the event.
Nia said accessories such as shoes and handbags and makeup are also available. If a girl is attending two proms, she is able to take two sets of items.
She said while there are no proof-of-income requirements, she hopes everyone uses "the honor system," and leaves the free dresses for those who really need them. "It's meant for girls who can't afford a new dress," she said. "Everyone deserves to go to their prom."
