We’ve been having a lot of fun this week with the Jet Blue guy, Steven Slater. But really….a folk hero? Shouldn’t the word “hero” be reserved for someone that actually does something heroic? Quitting is not heroic unless you’re quitting smoking. Just ask our night guy Fishboy!
I’d be lying if I told you I’ve never had a day where I didn’t feel like “grabbing 2 beers and going for a slide.” We’ve all had days where we were tempted to tell our boss to find some other stooge to do this job. But why haven’t we grabbed the PA and told everyone to “kiss off”? Try a little thing called responsibility. Maybe you have a family to feed, a house or car payment to make, or you just feel fortunate that you ARE employed.
The lead story on NBC news last nite was all about the economy. There are 14.6 million people out of work in our country. Make that 14.6 million plus 1--Steven “I’m mad as Hell and I’m not going to take it anymore” Slater.
Slater says the stress has been building up for 20 years. Maybe he just wasn’t cut out to be a flight attendant. I worked my way through college every Summer in the Poconos as a waiter. And every Summer I always looked forward to Labor Day. That was the day all the annoying tourists went home! But I never once lost my cool and screamed at a customer. I may have called them names in the kitchen but never on the dining room floor.
So enjoy your 15 minutes this week Slater. And good luck in your next job interview when your asked “How did things go at your last place of employment?”
